We are absolutely stuffed. John is sitting on the sofa and
can’t even get himself up to have a shower. We have worked our butts off today
plastering and sanding spots in the bedroom, entranceway, new wall and French doors
and architrave in the living room. We knew it was going to be a massive day,
but sanding all day, redoing plastering where the builder’s mate had done a bad
job, and constant sweeping up of dust/mopping of floors has made for one of
those horrible but necessary days in any home renovation. We have cleaned up a
channel between the bedroom and kitchen/bathroom and the rest of the place is
still covered in plastic sheeting.

There is more sanding on the cards tomorrow, but hopefully
that will be finished by lunchtime and then I can get stuck into a really good
and final overhaul clean of the whole place. Scott and Suzanne arrive tomorrow
evening so we have to have the place back up to speed by then. John managed to
get one coat of white on the bedroom ceiling tonight but there are some stains
showing through so we’ll need to put on some oil based undercoat before going
any further.
The electrician arrived at 1:30pm as promised. He thought he
was going to finish today but he is back tomorrow morning. We suspect he
underestimated the amount of time all the wiring and new sockets were going to
take. We thought we got a pretty good price for it in the end.
It’s 6:30pm. I’ve just broken into the box of German goodies
that Alastair had been putting aside and brought with him to Céret. The
chocolate spicy gingerbread cakes have given John the strength to have a
shower. Thanks Alastair J.
They’re yummy.
