Saturday 7th

Market day for us all. Stocked up on all the essentials. Summer fruit is well in season now with a good choice of apricots, peaches, nectarines and melons. They are picked nearer to ripe than they are in NZ, so tend to have more flavour, or so we think. Being a chef and cuisine lecturer Suzanne was really in her element and ended up taking a huge number of photos of the market stalls.

We all did our normal Bar Pablo stop after the market, complete with jazz buskers in their usual spot. Scott and Suzanne were tired from their travel, so we all had a bit of a siesta, something we really haven’t done as we had been using the sofa-bed and of course it wasn’t out in daytime. Late in the afternoon we were treated to two superb weddings outside in our square beside the church. The second bride left by an army jeep complete with a guard of honour of uniformed firefighters (we assume the groom was a firefighter). Out in the main street they changed into a horse and buggy, with an escort of large motorbikes!

Lovely evening in Céret

Nobody felt like cooking in the evening, so we looked around town for a place to eat and ended up in a tapas bar where we had the menu du jour, which turned out to be very nice. A very pleasant and relaxing day.
