Monday 11th - Mairie again

Good progress today with the builder having finished for now. He can’t do any more until the electrician has done his job. After 5 weeks, we are still to receive the 2nd quote, but it has been promised to M. Freitas that it will come demain matin. How many times have we heard that?

So we have the storeroom finished apart from plastering and paint, the bedroom needing wiring, part of the lining, plaster and paint, the living room a little plaster and paint, ditto the entry. The doors between the rooms are hung and working, but need a bit of tweaking. We’ve final-coated the upper half of the bathroom, and done the special sticky tile-paint on the lower half. It is going to look so much better.

This morning we went to see the planner at the Mairie. Very helpful, especially after we said we were from NZ and not English! I understood pretty much everything he said, but not every word if you know what I mean. It sounds like there is just a small chance of being able to make a roof-terrace – he started by saying 20%. But because it is very high up and can’t be seen, chances go up. We are undecided what to do – the application is free, but we need the co-propriety’s permission before we can even ask, as we don’t own the rooms. It may get all too difficult.

Wonderful lightning and thunder as I write this. The sky is still partly clear and bright, but it is raining with big drops.
