AWESOME. We have internet at home. Not sure what I did
differently this morning, but the phone is receiving email and more, and I can
hook up the laptops to the internet through it. I’m not sure how fast it is
(cell reception isn’t perfect here) but it looks to be fast enough to work
with. What a relief!
More of the same today – me working on Talleys and Karen
painting. It’s a shame that I have so much work on at the moment. Meanwhile Karen
undercoated two pairs of shutters and painted the skirting. We are making
progress, slowly.

| 160 cheeses in the deli counter |
Off to do a supermarket shop because it is a holiday
tomorrow, as it is also on May 8th, 17th and 28th! We are pretty much surviving on salad stuff to put in our baguettes, plus food
we can easily heat up in the microwave. Last week we bought a pottle of petit salé with lentils. Didn’t realise that it included pork belly, but it was
actually very tasty. It will be a real bonus when our kitchen arrives and we
will be able to make real meals. We love the breads and are trying out the
different types on offer at the different bakers. I counted over 160 cheeses in
the cheese counter at the Auchan store in Perpignan, and that doesn’t include
the cheeses on the other shelves. The French take food VERY seriously.
It is 7pm already and now time to put up our feet. We tend
to get to this time of the night, have a quiet glass of wine for half an hour
while we watch the equivalent of Minties Moments on TV and then think about
what to do for dinner. There is very little for us on TV. Ordinary programmes
we know are subtitled, e.g. the Simpsons but it’s not really worth watching
anything other than football. There are a number of Euro Cup football games on
and we usually manage to watch the first half but fall asleep before the second
half starts at around 10pm. However we do have Morse and other films on a drive
which plugs direct into the TV and we can watch those. We’re trying to eke them
out over our 5 months though.
We managed to Skype with Alastair last night while we were
in the café. It was great to catch up with him – it seems he’s pretty keen on
trying to secure another round of internships at various design companies
around the world during 2012/13 while he has the opportunity. A number of
companies have approached him – it must be great to be sought-after.
