Time to make
some headway on getting our renovation started. We managed to get some names of
plumbers and electricians from the mairie
and got a visit arranged for tomorrow from a plumber and an electrician. We
haven’t sorted our mailbox yet – we need to get a lock changed – but with a
little luck the postie can open the box so we can remove the old lock and
replace it. No sign yet of my SIM card which we need for internet, and
hopefully it hadn’t already arrived and been tossed out. If it hasn’t arrived
by Thursday, I may have to reorder. It is frustrating always having to go to a
café for connection, there’s only so many coffees, wines and pastis you can have. Well to be honest,
there really isn’t a limit!
I’ve been
doing a bit of work in cafes, but it is really a lot easier if I can do it back
here, even if my desk and chair is actually a bike box propped on two cartons
with a pillow on the floor in front.

We had a
good look around town to find what stores are available. There is a locksmith,
several small hardware stores, a big decorating shop, far too many boulangers and patisseries, and a huge surplus of hairdressers for some reason. In
the late afternoon we headed out to the zone
industrielle to look at a bike shop (pushbikes and motor-scooters) but they
only have a limited range, and all new. We had hoped there might be some 2nd
hand ones to check out. Coming back was a bit of a laugh. There have been a few
showers during the day, though the weather is nice and warm (20), but as we
headed back on the half hour walk the big black clouds began a good
thunderstorm, followed by 1cm wet hailstones, then torrential rain. We got rather
damp very quickly but thankfully found a shelter to hide under until it passed
over.
