We’re now sitting round in Auckland Airport, waiting for our gate to be announced for AKL-BNE. We’re both pretty well stuffed, and not thinking at all clearly as shown by our carrying our house keys through to Auckland instead of giving them to Sandy at Nelson airport. No harm done, we managed to find a shop which sold little boxes and stamps. Sandy & Lynette will get a small box from No. 18, delivered to No. 17. The postie will wonder at the sanity of the sender!
We managed to spend an hour plus with Karen’s father and brother before checking in, which was nice. It appears that Scott and Suzanne will be able to come and see us in July.
We were very cunning at check-in. We have too much weight in our checked-in baggage despite Emirates allowing 30kg each – two bags at 20.5kg and a bike box complete with bike at more like 21kg. However when I sat the bike box on the scales, I managed to prop one end on another bag, and it miraculously came in at a mere 16kg. And when it came to weighing our cabin bags (which they did do), our two laptops were neatly hidden under jackets in the baggage trolley, hiding the several kilos each over the limit they represent. Hopefully next year we will be well under the limits, and won’t have to concern ourselves. It’s been a hassle for the last two months finding things we need to take, and for each one having to take out an equal weight of something else we also thought we needed.
All that is behind us now and we are slowly beginning to de-stress.
