Our flight from Auckland to Dubai was in one of the A380s and proved to be excellent. The cabin seemed so much more spacious than other planes we have flown in, and the seats reclined well and were extremely comfortable. We both slept/dozed for about 7 hours of the 14½ hour flight. It was great being able to just chill out, watch movies and be fed meals and endless cups of tea.
However, by arrival time at Dubai John was feeling seriously crook and was trying manfully not to throw up. Thankfully, after wandering around in the terminal for an hour, stretching our legs and trying to find where to get the free meal for Emirates transfer passengers (which we finally found after queuing for 20 minutes at the info centre we were not entitled to) John was starting to feel better. We worked out that it was probably his caffeine-withdrawal issue. He had had a coffee at Auckland airport and usually as long as he has one coffee each day he is fine, but we didn’t make extra allowance for our being seriously stressed and tired before we got on the plane. We will take note of this for the future!
We have realised that we really were pretty tired and seriously missed sorting some final things, e.g. John’s coffee hit, giving the house keys to Sandy, setting the house alarm (don’t laugh Sally), zip-tying the backpacks before checking them in and more.
