Up early so I could ring up Castorama and change the shower before it was packed up for us. No mean feat over the phone dealing with complex issues like changing and reasons and delivery but it got done OK, though we need to go back to Perpignan to sign for the change. Again, the staff have been exceedingly helpful, both with the original purchase and the changeover.
We wonder whether how much resentment
there is among the locals about the numbers of foreigners living here. Of the
people ordering major purchases in Castorama, I’d think getting on for half
would be English. And in the cafes in the mornings and early evenings, again
half would be foreigners. Maybe the times don’t suit the French so much then? I
suspect we’d be resentful if Nelson got flooded by thousands of foreigners,
inflating prices and speaking English badly or not at all.
There’s a major funeral happening
down below us, with many hundreds of mourners and a very young widow or
daughter. The church must have been full, and the poor widow has had to endure
every one of them filing our past her and offering condolences.
Another thing off the list
(almost). Went in to see Samir today (he’d had 2 days off to cope with his
headache after the successful rugby of the weekend) and he has been able to get
the missing SIM card redelivered to us. Should arrive Tuesday, after which we
hopefully will have working internet – 3GB for just €20 per month. That will be a great relief
and make life an awful lot easier.
