Today we chose to make a museum day. We were particularly
keen to visit two in particular, but hadn’t reckoned on the fact that we would
spend so long at them. We walked to the Museé des Arts Decoratif and spent a
very interesting 3+ hours there. It is full of Art Nouveau and Art Deco
exhibits, as well as the more ordinary fare. Also a very good display going
from the 30s to the 90s, a floor to each with plenty of “designer” chairs of
which we recognise a good number., and most of which live as tiny models in our glass-topped living room table in Nelson.
We didn’t leave until 4pm but still wanted to see the Museé
d’Orsay, for its extensive exhibition of Impressionist art. We enjoyed the huge
number of Cézanne, Reynoir, Monet, Picasso, Monat, and Sisley paintings in
particular, but not as much as we remembered from 1982 when they were at Jeu
des Paumes. We could have spent hours and hours there, but our feet were tiring
and we targeted the artists we most wanted to see, plus the Art Deco and Art
Nouveau exhibits. Finally left at 6.30pm, having carefully managed to avoid some
rain showers while we were inside.
Opted to get the metro home, and found our way back to a
metro stop near our apartment very easily. It is a superb public transport
system. We cobbled together a meal of bread, salad and bits and pieces.
