Monday 20th - Prep for leaving

Such a hot day again today. It was already 24 degrees by 7.30am so not keen to go on a run. We are going to the pool more and more, as are lots of other people. Thankfully, they now have two lanes roped off so people can swim lengths if they want to, one reserved for children’s programmes. There are usually only 2 or 3 others in our lane so it’s not a problem. We think the temperature in the pool is now about 28 – 29 degrees, and the weather report on TV tonight said the sea temperature on our coast is 24 degrees. The temperature predicted for Céret for the rest of the week is more of the same: 35 degrees. We haven’t seen rain for a few months now. The last wet day we can remember was when Alastair was with us at the end of June, though it did rain hard one night since.

This afternoon saw us begin our preparations for packing up here and leaving. We have photographed the clothes we are leaving so we will be able to recall what we have here. They have all been put into the shelves in the storeroom. We’ve also begun sorting through books etc.

John put the last coat of plaster on the wall in the bathroom beside the shower (where the bath used to be). We haven’t been able to find tiles to match those already on the rest of the walls, so we are plastering it up and will paint it the same colour. It is hidden behind towels when they are on the towel-rail so it’s no big deal.

Went for a short walk around town at about 9pm to try and cool down a bit.
