Wednesday 2nd

A pretty full day today. We had a plumber come around mid-morning to quote for the work and he seemed to think he could start the work within 10 days. That would be great – our shower and kitchen should arrive early next week, along with our appliances. I then spent the day working and Karen did 9 hours solid painting. We now have two pairs of shutters and their surrounds double-coated, plus the pantry/wardrobe done. We are hearing odd comments back that say the photos all show Karen working, and never me. Yes, it’s pretty much true. Maybe one day my work will slow down but at the moment there’s more than enough to keep me away from a paintbrush.

One big bit of news today is the start of work on the roof above us. Monsieur Freitas and his crew arrived at lunchtime with a big crane, a skip and a truck and got straight into ripping off the old tiles. They are very efficient and have taken off half the roof by tonight. The weather for the weekend looks very wet, so hopefully his plastic sheeting will be either replaced by then or will hold well. I spoke to him and he expects to be gone in a fortnight, depending on weather. He will also come and quote on our own job tomorrow.

We had our 2nd funeral below today. It will be much nicer when we don’t need to look out through mesh, pipes and platforms, not to mention brighter.
