Wednesday 16th

The multiple clock idea was a good one, and they look good up on the wall, the only trouble is they make a hell of a racket! We endured one night and then gave it away. J took the batteries out of them so now they permanently set on the time differences between Céret/Munich, Melbourne (where Bella and Nic live) and Nelson, i.e. 9 here, 5 in Melbourne (which just happens to be tipple time so we can have a drink at any time of the day) and 7 in Nelson.

Today we put in a solid day’s work. I spent all day painting – finishing off the shutters and putting the white enamel on the internal doors in the living room/bathroom. A very smelly job with the oil based paint and I was very pleased to finish it. J spent most of the day on his work again, but thankfully the pressure for him is now off.

We headed out for some fresh air at 5pm for a pastis and glass of wine at Bar Pablo, having a chat with one of the Aussie guys while there. It was lovely sitting in the sun for a while. The weather has been pretty up and down really – some very hot days but many still with a pretty cool breeze. We always have all the windows open during the day because of the painting fumes, and that makes our apartment quite chilly at times. I am often stripped down to minimal painting attire because I get hot painting and climbing up and down the ladder all the time, while J is huddled in the corner at his desk in layers of clothes.

Couldn’t be bothered thinking about dinner last night so bought a mushroom pie to cook up in the microwave and a couple of ice cream cups for afters. Pretty bad really!
