Monday 7th

Writing this to the accompaniment of the church organ. It’s the first time we’ve heard it since we’ve been here. Maybe it has been involved in the 1.5 million of renovations in the church that have been going on since before we arrived, and probably will be for many months yet. It really is rather lovely to hear.

With the reasonably imminent (we hope) arrival of various appliances, kitchen and shower we spent today trying to finish off various small jobs in the living room, especially cleaning the fireplace. We need to look for some sort of polish to really bring up its lustre. It is solid stone on the shelf, front façade and hearth.

In the afternoon J happily agreed with me to walk down  to the Zone Artisanale to get some plants for our newly purchased window boxes. We came away with a selection of flowering petunias and a couple of packets of seeds including the geraniums that everyone seems to have, we suppose because they are hardy.  Seedling prices are pretty fearsome here so we had to opt for packets of seeds instead, but hopefully they will soon be sprouting. J was very mannish and hefted a 40 litre bag of potting mix all the way home.
